My Story

My story isn’t anything Netflix could make a docu-series about. That’s not to say I’m anything short of grateful. I grew up in a small town on the south coast raised by two hardworking immigrant parents. I had a very traditional upbringing and at the same time was exposed to the diversity of contemporary South African society. I was fortunate enough to live in a community with many other families who were also first generation South Africans which allowed me to experience that cultural duality with others my age, with whom I formed strong friendships.

Growing up in this environment has left me with a strong sense of self, a unique perspective through which I see the world and has given me the opportunity to witness just how fast that immigrant parent slipper can fly off.

Everyday I draw from my unique background and university experiences in a pursuit of meaningful career opportunities.

The Green House is a consulting firm in Cape Town that is involved in a range of energy, climate change and sustainability-related projects. My focus in my time as a junior consultant involved Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using SimaPro. My role included marketing the software to potential clients as well as providing technical support. I also used the software to assist on projects for various well known clients. SimaPro is a powerful tool for informed change-makers. SimaPro is a LCA software tool used for assessing the environmental impact of products and services throughout their entire life cycle. • Intern
  • D-Tech Design & Engineering
  • November 2017 – February 2018

D-Tech Design & Engineering provided me with the opportunity to put what I had learned in the confines of the lecture room to practical use. During my time with them, I developed what can only be described as the fundamental skills that any engineer should have. I can confidently say  that I gained knowledge that I would not have in any practical or lab session on campus.

  • Technician
  • The Magic Company, Wild Coast Sun
  • November 2018 – January 2019

The Magic Company is the arcade side of the casinos owned by Sun International. My primary role was floor technician which involved taking apart the broken machines, salvaging what’s left or using parts of one machine to repair another and then bring it out onto the floor for the kids to destroy again.  Yes, this started as a Summer job but it quickly evolved into a very customer interaction training session. Countless children and their parents  were insistent that their tokens were swallowed by the machines and felt the need to make a scene to get their way. My supervisor taught me valuable lessons in conflict resolution and many ways to de-escalate the situation at hand.

If there’s anything that caught your eye and you feel I’d be a great fit with your team, here’s my CV. Take a look and hopefully we can work together soon!
